Esports Events to Watch This Week (July 8-14)

Want to know what esports events you absolutely need to check out this week?

We got you covered!

#5 NBA2K Playoff Security – Pacers Gaming Vs 76ers  GC

Time: Friday, July 12th,  9:00 PM Eastern Time / 6:00 PM Pacific Time

Watch on Twitch

With only two weeks left in the regular season of the NBA2K League tensions are rising as teams gear up for the playoffs. This matchup between the Pacers and 76ers could be a preview of what we see in the first round of the playoffs as both teams are currently sitting in the middle of the playoff picture

With so many teams currently boasting 8 wins on the season, both of these squads will be fighting desperately to get this victory. A loss could mean the difference between a great seed entering the post season or potentially not making the cut at all. With so much on the line and both teams being so evenly matched expect this to be one of the better games we’ve seen all season.

#4 LEC Rivals Showdown – Splyce Vs SK Gaming

Time: Friday, July 12th 1:00 PM Eastern Time / 10:00 AM Pacific Time

Watch on Twitch

One of the most interesting matches in the LEC is the second match of the week between Splyce (4-2)  and SK Gaming (3-3). Both teams are sitting just outside the top few spots and some solid performances could easily push them up into contention for the top spot in the league.

With the entire European league being so close there is a flipside to this as well. A loss in this matchup could send either team dangerously close to the bottom of the playoff picture. While the season is still young, everyone wants to be fighting for the top, not their playoff lives. This will be a match that could set up the rest of the season for both of these teams.

#3 LCS Top Dog Showdown – Team Liquid Vs CLG

Time: Saturday, July 13rd, 8:00 PM Eastern Time / 5:00 PM Pacific Time

Watch on Twitch

There is currently a three way tie for the top spot in the LCS and both CLG and Team Liquid want that spot for themselves. Just like last week, CLG has a very emotional matchup this week playing against one of their original superstars and faces of the franchise, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, the North American superstar ADC.

Both teams went undefeated last week and have performed incredibly well in this split to date making the matchup difficult to predict. The game will likely heavily revolve around the Mid lane where Liquid’s Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen will duke it out with CLG’s Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage while Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes does his best to match Doublelift on the bottom side of the map.

#2 OWL Playoff Matchup – San Francisco Shock Vs Seoul Dynasty

Time: Friday, July 12th, 9:00 PM Eastern Time / 6:00 PM Pacific Time

Watch on Twitch

The Overwatch league enters the stage three playoffs this weekend and while the first few rounds of any postseason can be lopsided at times, the matchup in the middle is always fun to watch. The San Francisco Shock were the victors in the last stage playoffs but this time, they will have a difficult matchup against the Seoul Dynasty to advance past the first round.

This is the first playoffs the Dynasty have managed to qualify for this season but that doesn’t make them any less dangerous. They have improved significantly over the course of the year and will be looking to make a statement this weekend. There is no denying they enter this match as the underdogs however, as the Shock have made both stage finals so far and have had a very impressive season.  All we know for sure is that this will be an incredible match to kick off the second day of quarter-final action.

#1 OWL Stage 3 Grand Finals

Time: Sunday, July 14th, 4:00 PM Eastern Time / 1:00 PM Pacific Time

Watch on Twitch

While the entire weekend of Overwatch action will be entertaining and informative for fans looking to gauge who could be this season’s champion, nothing is more exciting than a finals. With only one stage to go in the regular season after this weekend you can be sure that the teams you see excelling this weekend will be contenders for the title at the end of this season as well.

While it’s impossible to know exactly who will be participating in this match just yet it would be safe to assume the Vancouver Titans and New York Excelsior will be the final two. These teams currently sit at the top of the standings for both the stage and season but have yet to meet in a stage finals. The pair did clash during the playoffs last stage in a semifinal matchup that Vancouver won 4-1.

That does it for us this week! We hope you have a fantastic weekend watching esports and don’t forget to check out our calendar so you can stay on top of every event!
